Volunteer Opportunities
Ozanam Hall is fortunate to be a member of a generous and giving community who believe, as George Bernard Shaw did, that giving back to the community is not only a privilege but also a true necessity for human existence and perpetuity. Volunteers at Ozanam Hall perform many valuable services and give of themselves in numerous ways to better the quality of life for our residents, both physically and spiritually.
Volunteers give of themselves as they give to our residents in the following ways:
- Visiting residents to lend friendship and compassion
- Assisting with various activity programs
- Transporting residents to activities (Mass, rehab, patio visits, etc.)
- Assist residents with feeding through our Loving Spoonful Program
- Assist visually impaired residents by distributing and reading mail
- Teaching computer skills to residents
- Participate in Music Therapy with residents
- Eucharistic Ministers
- Gift Shop
- And many other services
"I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is no 'brief candle' to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."
- George Bernard Shaw
All the staff at Ozanam Hall value our many volunteers who enrich and reward their own lives by putting into action the true meaning of good work and unselfish giving from the heart.
Ozanam Hall also welcomes Junior Volunteers and we encourage high school students in our community to also call Gail O'Donovan. The act of volunteering should be fostered into the fiber of our young people today so the "brief candle" will be past on to become a "splendid torch" for future generations to come!
If you too would like to experience the joy and reward of giving the gift of yourself to help enrich the lives of others, please complete the form on this page or call us today at (718) 423-2000.
